This Peds forum is pretty dead. Maybe we can get some of us lurkers (like myself) who are applying to Cali Peds Programs to keep each other updated on things throughout this application process.

Who else here is applying to Cali?

i'm applying to a couple in the bay area. i was looking at san diego (mostly for the weather), but my advisor mentioned they're having some accreditation issues there. anybody know if that's true? i know LA has some good ones, but the thought of living there makes the midwesterner in me cringe.

yeah, i heard this website was good last year for posting once the interview invitations start getting extended.

later,

later,

I haven't personally heard any of the accreditation issues. They did, however, only match 9/14 last year which makes me suspicious for something weird going on. I'm doing a rotation there in a month so maybe I'll find out more info on that.

I'm definitely interested in that info. Considering the location, it makes me extra suspicious...I know programs can sometimes overestimate their desirability but 9/14 sounds like there was a bad reason. Probably the only way I'd have a chance though. 😛

I posted this question in the General Residency Forum also...

has anybody already certified & applied to California programs? I've submitted 8 applications, and only ONE school has downloaded my app. Just curious if anybody else is having this issue.

also planning to apply to Cali schools. Lots of people here at UofChicago know about San Fran programs and their neighbors but getting little input about any programs outside the bay area. I'd like to hear about the various L.A./orange county/irvine programs and also this UCSD stuff.

i applied to 2 in california. Stanford's downloaded it; Oakland has not. But that's only since 9-8

I'm officially a Cali applicant today - yay! Applied to 6 programs - UCSF, Stanford, Children's Oakland, CHOC, UCI and UCSD. Pigs will probably fly before I'm invited at the first two, but I had to try. 🙂

Glad to see several cali applicants on here. So far I have CHOC, UCI, Loma Linda and CHLA that have downloaded my app.

Other Cali programs I'm waiting to download my app includes UCSD, UCLA, Harbor-UCLA and USC. Anybody hear from them yet?

Update: I added UCLA, Harbor-UCLA and CHLA. Ridiculous amount I know, but I'd like to have at least one interview out there...

Has UCLA downloaded from anyone yet? It's the only one remaining of the programs I've applied to.

UCLA is the only program that hasn't downloaded my application also. I called them last week and they said they weren't starting the process yet... so no big deal.

Only interview I have so far is CHLA, and I don't think any of the others are offering interviews yet. Last year here on SDN it seemed like most california schools offered interviews in mid-octoberish (some a little earlier).

I also added UCSF & Stanford to my application... so we'll see how this goes!

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on which Cali programs you heard were good. Right now I'm interviewing at Oakland Children's, Oakland-Kaiser, Children's LA, UCLA-Harbor, UCSF/Fresno, UC Irvine, USC, and Kaiser - LA.

Just got rejected from long beach. I was really hoping to stay in Southern California. I'll be going to UCSF/SFSU. Glad I got in somewhere!
