For all you nay sayers who said it couldnt be done: I just got accepted to med school with an undergraduate GPA of 2.5. So don't give up hope just because you figured out you wanted to be a doctor at a kegger the second semester of your senior year!! Study hard for the MCATS, beg your way into a post bac program, and work your ass off!!!!

Congrats!!!!!!!! You give me soooo much Hope!!!👍
Which school did you get accepted to?
What did you do your post bac in?

I got into Drexel.

Took 3 classes non-degree at Maryland.
Did the Drexel IMS program, got strait A's. (So, a 4.0 w/ 12 A's post graduation)
Got a 37 on the MCATS.
Had some solid letters and a modest amount of volunteer experience.

It was a lot of work the last two years, but if you really want to do it don't listen to anyone who says your not gonna be able to. Since day one about 75% of the advisors and so on that I've talked to have been telling me it wasn't possible, or I should go overseas, blah blah blah. Anyway, good luck.

you've sparked some hope inside of this dark hole

Thank God you didn't say you got into Stewart U. There would have been some serious bubble bursting going on.

Congrats on getting into Drexel! It sounds like you worked your butt off and you deserve it.

I just got into an allopathic school with a 3.01-did a Masters and 2 years of undergraduate classes trying to bring up my GPA. It started as under 2.9.

Congrats😀 . However, i have come to conclusion that no matter how hard some people study, they will never be able to get that kind of MCAT score. Again, congrats, and good luck :luck:

whats there to hate? that is an insane turn-around. congrats.

..... i would be wary of giving hope to people that may not be able to do accomplish what you have... its likely rare to have such a strong mcat and post-grad scores compared to ugrad....

Nice job, man! I had a 2.7 coming out of ugrad myself, did an informal post-bacc and got a 38 and got in to med school on my first try. Obviously if you struggled through undergrad because you are stupid, you won't get a huge MCAT score, but if you were just partying your ass off and slid by, anything is possible.

By the virtue of the power and authority vested in me, I hereby declare this thread:

SDN's OFFICIAL underdog thread

Seriously, you've done an awesome job. You're an inspiration to thousands of other premeds with subpar/crappy GPAs who are wondering if the hurdle before them is insurmountable...and you should be very proud of yourself.

Congrats, that's a great turnaround. I hope others aren't given false hope because a 38 MCAT is off the charts.

What's ur point!!!

Congrats! you deserved it.

However, it's not as if you going to Harvard. If i were in your tight shoes, i will be much more humble than you are.

Chill out, it is not the end of the world. No one knows what the future holds...The time to call on haters is after you graduate medical school, not now.

Finally, the unnecessary comment I was waiting for once this thread was started! 👍

congrats, but realize you are the exception, rather than the rule for people in similar situations. it's not every day that someone with a 2.5 drops a 37 on the mcat. best of luck in medical school.

Good point, if your GPA wasn't so low you would have been competitive at top ten schools with that MCAT score. Instead you get Drexel. Oh well, you are still Dr. izzbozzed2 when all is said and done.

However, it's not as if you going to Harvard.

The time to call on haters is after you graduate medical school...

...after you've rocked Step 1 like you rocked the MCAT...

...and as a result have beaten out the rest of these folks for the Harvard residencies 😉

Congrats!!!

well you asked for haters, and lo and behold here they are...don't let anyone try to belittle your huge accomplishment. Congrats!

we need more threads like this to give people like me hope..but wait, a 37 on the mcat 😱 so much for giving "me" some hope:laugh:

Heh, props to the OP. I sort of caught myself from slacking off so badly too, although I didn't end up doing a post-bac I had only 3.8x and 3.9x semesters the last 2 years of college (my overall was still a 3.55 even counting the physics I aced over a summer elsewhere...so I was a pretty bad slacker the first 2 years).

So...yeah, it is possible for a smart slacker to turn themselves around, and do well on the MCAT and start acing courses.

And to the people commenting on how he only got into Drexel...yes, of course if he had been super hard working from the get-go (same goes for myself too), he'd probably have gotten into a better medical school. But then again if I had been harder working in high school I'd have gotten into a better college, so you can keep tracing this kind of logic back on and on. What's important is that now that he's ready to rumble, he's got the combination of work ethic and brilliant intellect.

Which means that he's going to tear people a new one on the USMLE 😀 anyway, so why does it even matter whether he goes to Drexel or JHU, he's still going to do just fine in the end.

P.S. I could almost swear that Counter-Strike and Starcraft ruined my high school career lol.
