Hey, Classes of 2010:

Who's had enough summer? Who's ready for a 2nd helping? When are you all going back to the pits of Hell? Personally, I don't start for another week, but I'm spending most of the next week wrapping up my summer project and helping out with 1st year orientation activities. I hope that you have all had a relaxing, wonderful summer, and are ready to hit the ground running!

To kick this off...if you could have 1 wish for 2nd year, what would it be?

Oh LW, my dearest, I'm so with you on that one! I still need a few days of complete nothing to unwind from Chi-town, but other than that I'm SO ready to get down right now. The only thing I really want, as any other MS-2 would, are some pimp @$$ grades and Step 1 scores to match!

I guess if that doesn't count as a wish, then getting my research published would be nice 😎

UAB doesn't start back until the day after Labor Day (Sept. 4th). Part of me is enjoying the summer, the other part knows that the sooner 2nd year gets started, the sooner it ends, and we can all move away from lecture halls. Oh well, 4 more weeks of research.

we start here on Monday.

i have been away from full-time med school for quite awhile since i've been finishing my phd, so i'm just hoping i remember something (anything!) from my M1 courses that i took so long ago.

Already in the thick of it and struggling to get back in the rhythm of things, keep on having urges to do crazy things like watch tv or take naps or hang with friends . . . must not give in to temptation!

How early do y'all finish 2nd year? I'm pretty stoked about Labor Day to May 10, especially compared to our first year off August 1 to June 8.

I had enough summer from the day it started. I wish med school didn't take so unnecessarily long. I could have studied straight through summer and been that much closer to step 1 and dollars in my pocket.

I felt well rested after half of my summer vacation passed. Now I'm just rotting my brain. I think it would be awesome if they broke it into several mini breaks.

I feel like I lived several lifetimes over the last 7 or so weeks, spending most of my time overseas. So I'm not ready to go back at all yet. I need time to decompress.

I don't really feel like showing up for most of first week and starting in September with the rest of the kids. Ahh, that'd be nice.

hahah lady wolverine it was you who said WHO's DONE WITH SCHOOL when I had like 3 weeks left, I now have a month left of vacation, looks like the shoe's on the other foot 😉.

I can't believe all the responses above... I personally can't get enough of summer. I feel well rested, have a PhD lab chosen, have significantly brushed up my spanish, have learned some cool stuff in lab, go out 3-4 times a week, and play beach volleyball every sat and sun 😎

I am enjoying not studying, doing other things besides lectures, and seeing my friends and family. And did I mention not studying? 👍

edit: And I go back in about 3 weeks, which is fine by me. I feel ready. But I'm just sad that we don't really get anymore long breaks after this until 4th year. Mmm, 4th year, I've heard so many good things. 🙂

Yeah, I'm with you here. I'd prefer more 2 to 3 week breaks throughout the year over 3 whole months off.
