I was complete at UVA more than a month ago and got an email with half of it saying this:

"Evaluation of applications at the University of Virginia is a careful and comprehensive process that may take several weeks or even months to complete. Please do not become alarmed if you do not hear from us for an extended period of time. Repeated phone calls to the Admissions Office are not helpful and require the staff to take time away from processing incoming applications. Please be assured that your application will receive a thorough evaluation, and we will contact you when a decision has been made."

Does anyone know whether the amount of time they take to review your application for interview is significant?? Some people have already had their interviews so I was wondering whether or not the longer you have to wait to hear from them the more it means "hahaha, are you kidding? hell no." Also, does this go for all schools you haven't really heard from yet?
I guess I shouldn't pester them with any phone calls although I desperately want to.

From everything I have read, there is one person who is in charge of granting interviews. As a result, the later in the season you submit, the longer you may have to wait. That said, I was complete in late July and heard back within 3-4 weeks. I don't think the wait has anything to do with the strength of your application. Once it is reviewed, you will likely receive a response.

Good luck,

Adam

I was complete August 8th or so and *still* haven't heard ANYTHING. Sigh I expected more from my alma mater.

i actually think the wait may be related to the strength of the application somewhat...
i heard that some people submit in july, or august (like myself) and have not heard yet, and i feel its the above average numbers that have gotten in already

Not to throw the thread off or whine, but I've been complete since July with a 75+ in the little "formula" (Not that UVA uses this formula, but just to get an idea of stats).

Oh and I'm in-state.

My take: patience is a virtue! Honestly I don't know, but it is possible to wait a really, really long time. Really. I'm coming up on 4 months next week.

thanks guys *sigh* back to twiddling my thumbs...

That was my take too....

Also, I do not know of anyone with below a 32 MCAT who has recieved an interview...can anyone either confirm or disprove my theory????

Thanks!

well since their average in below just below 33 they are gonna have to interview below 32 sometime...

I know ... the question is when???????? 😕

Spoke too soon! Got the invite today.

haha, and only four months later...who said they weren't efficient...congrats

are the invites coming by snail mail or e-mail..
i guess likewise does anyone know if the rejections come by mail or e-mail...?

i havent heard of anyone getting rejections yet, so i dunno

thanks, golftrippy!

Interview came by snailmail, in a big manila envelope.

hi,

do you guys know of any way to "move" your application up as far as being considered. given when i was complete (early august) i feel like they have already looked at mine, figured that it wasnt stellar, but not bad enough to reject right away, and put me in a pile that typically ends up getting rejected...

this is just a shot in the dark as to how it work though, im just guessing

would sending in extra letters, etc. help at all?
do phone calls from people at your own school (profs, deans, etc.) help ( i wouldnt think so, but someone recently told me otherwise..)

thanks all!!

I would think phone calls would only help if you know someone who knows someone involved with the med school or admissions....but that is just my guess...

I sent in an update letter and have still not heard anything...so i'm not sure that sending in letters makes much of a difference if any....

Does anyone know when UVA stops interviewing? I know there due date for all secondary materials is in Jan, but if they are already scheduling interviews for Jan, it seems like they will have all their interviews scheduled by Christmas???? 😕

hi Kleintje,
looking at the SDN interview feedback, it seems that they interview someas late as late february (i saw one date 2/27/2004)... so imguessing it could even go into march
i think my question is when they actually stop offering interviews, and reject all the people they have waiting for any news (like me)
