ok, so i'm probably calling a school tmr about asking if i'm going to receive an interview because i'll be relatively close by for another interview and would like to do them both on the same trip, yadda yadda. has anyone successfully done this or know anyone who has??? :scared: :scared:

thanks

i don't know, it does make sense but i'd be afraid of sounding too presumptupus. maybe e-mail but i wouldn't call. and i have no experience with it...sorry

but let me know how it goes and the maybe i'd consider doing it too

You guys might find this useful...

Office of Admissions,

As I'm going to be in New York City on November 19, I was wondering if
it would be possible to interview at Cornell around that time. If not,
I understand and hope to interview at a later date.

Thanks,

IndyZX

Dear IndyZX,

Thank you for informing us of your schedule. We always try to accommodate
applicant's travel plans when this is possible. However, if you do not
hear from us to schedule an interview during that time, it does not
necessarily mean you would not be invited at a later date.

Sincerely,
Office of Admissions

So, no luck as of yet, but November is still pretty far away. I hope it will work out.

hey Indy. it's pretty cool that they gave you such a cordial response. my pre-med advisor said students usually have more success with calling schools than with emails, so that's what i did.

it didn't work for me, though 🙄

oh well, time heals all wounds... 😎

Word of caution: Be prepared for schools to say your file has already been reviewed and you are going to be reviewed again on a later date!!! or that you've been rejected (thankfully the former was my case). Such a bummer!! I called Loyola today and the lady was super nice but said that my file will be reviewed again after the 1st of year (what I hear is :"You such and aren't going to make it here.") and that the most she can do is present it to the committee for consideration. I just told her is wasn't a big deal if I couldn't be accomodated and thanks for her time. I WILL NOT be calling the other two schools in the area I applied to. Not a great way to end the week/start the weekend. 👎 🙁

It worked out well for me. I got an interview from GW and then emailed Gtown and UVA to let them know that I would be in the area if they wanted to interview me then. I heard back within a couple of days from both schools and was offered an interview at both places, which I was able to schedule the same week as GW. So I would say go ahead and give it a try. It's worth saving the money, especially when you're flying out from the west coast like me!

It all depends on the school... I just called NYU for this very reason, and they told me off the bat that they don't make special considerations for traveling, etc. But as they say, it doesn't hurt to call! Good luck! :luck:

Well with other people's experiences...... I guess I might hold off on that..... but I am not in the same situation yet, so I will see what to do when I get any letters from NY schools......I think Einstein said that if you are coming to NY to let them know in advance and they will see if they can accomodate.

Thanks for the heads up on NYU.

Yeah, I tried for NYU with no luck.

has anyone tried this at hopkins or know if they will accomodate u?

both places offered you an interview?! damn, what's your secret? 😀

So what do you guys think about Harvard? I am interviewing for BU and I'd like to get Harvard done too. But since I've only been complete for a couple days ...?

Hee hee. I can imagine the conversation:
"So you see, BU is interviewing me next week, and I figured that if BU wants to talk to me, certainly you guys at Harvard Community College must want to too."

Revised: Seriously, though, VFrank. You *are* going to get a Harvard interview. But I doubt they're far enough along in their process to tell you yet. Look how late their secondary came out, for pete's sake.

I guess this is a bit of a bump. I just got invited to interview at Yale and was hoping to combine that trip with UConn, Columbia, Vermont, Cornell, Dartmouth, Rochester, and Harvard. OK, I know that's not realistic, but has anyone tried some of the above schools with the "Hey I'm in the neighborhood..." bit?

Well, for what its worth...I will be interviewing at NJMS and wanted to see if I could schedule RWJ for the same time and when I called, they told me I was still being reviewed. What does this mean? I dunno, but the lady on the phone told me to call again 10 days before I was scheduled to be in NJ. Hmmm...

Vfrank,
how many days have you been complete for? I was complete for 10 days when I heard I was getting a harvard new pathways interview and I heard on a sunday which means they had probably made the decision on friday (8 days) at the latest. So, they do seem to be making decisions pretty quickly. Couldn't hurt to call...

OK, cats. Today I contacted all the schools in the New York/Connecticut area that I applied to, only actually spoke to one person. That was at Columbia and she said that the system there is if you're going to be in town write them an email and let them know the dates. Then, they forward it to the adcom and they do what they do. Might be nothing, might be something. I left a phone message at UConn and sent an email to Cornell. I'll keep you posted...

Hello,
Cornell definitely considers your travel schdule.
My cornell application was completed at Oct 14th. I got an interview invitation from NYU on Oct 21st and called Cornell if there is a possibility that I can have an interview when I am in New York city. They asked me if I have another interview and when. They told me that they attached a note to my file and if invitation is made they would send an e-mail immediately.

And today I got an invitation from Cornell! In that mail they wrote that if I have other interview schedules in New York, they would be happy to arrange the interview considering my convenience.

I would suggest to call them if you are in similar situation with me. 😛

moonk321 what the heck are your stats i've been complete at both of those schools for awhile? my stats GPA=3.94, 30 mcat research, volunteer etc...

Definitely don't try with Stanford. I called them today and they were like, "we don't do that. If you get invited for interview you will have a calendar that you can pick a date from. We will have dates in late Nov/December through January for interviews, and the first invites will be mid-late November, via email. We have lots of people call about upcoming interviews in the bay area and we just can't accomodate like that."

So much for the fare sale this week 🙁

GPA=3.99, 35Q unbalanced MCAT, not fantastic research or EC.
I guess my being a canadian resident helped. When I called the admissions office, the lady asked me "so are you coming from Canada?"
I hope you will hear good news soon.
