So what are people's thoughts on having your letter writers calling your number 1 choice on your behalf?

So technically you have 3-4 letter writers who can back you up, would it be a nuisance to your number 1 program to have 2 or 3 or even 4 of your letter writers calling? What are people doing?

I've had one of my letter writers volunteer, and he is fairly well known, etc., so I think I'll have him call my #1 program, but honestly I don't think it's going to change anything at this point, you know? I think most programs' rank lists are done by now.

Get a call in if you can but should have done that early on.

I can't do that. My home school is not my #1 (they haven't shown me any love but sort of expect that I'll be ranking them #1)

That would be an awkward request for a phone call

same here, and i'm sure that the situation is common.

how much weight does an applicant sending an email or letter to a program carry in comparison?

If there is someone I guess some would consider a derm god that you have that would volunteer to call on your behalf

when would you have them call programs,

before you apply, after you apply, after you have been extended an invite, if you have not been extended an invite, or after the interview itself

i guess im reading a lot of different things, so

just wanted to clarify that

One select call should be placed, ideally by your derm dept's designated caller (some places will have one person who typically makes the calls because no one else wants to) or a DemiDermGod, at the following times:

- No invite from your desired program: Use a call to trigger an invite. Worst case scenario, they only interview you as a courtesy. Best case scenario, you wow 'em at the interview and they say, "What were we thinking not to invite him/her?"

- After your interview: To confirm that you want program X, and to suss out whether program X wants you.

Do not ask to swamp programs with calls. You just look pushy, and frankly your callers don't want to waste their political capital unnecessarily.

Is it too late to call programs at this point, considering most probably have their rank lists done? And is this really necessary, or does it potentially seem desperate? I was not planning on doing anything at this point.

if your program recently finished their interviews (there were some that had dates in february)
