Hi everyone,

Dr. Doan, when do you think is the best time for a faculty member to make a call on an applicant's behalf? As soon as possible?, right before the interview?, right after the interview?, or before rank list deadlines.

Also, is it looked down upon for someone to do away rotations at multiple (3 or more) programs?

Thanks in advance. 🙂

I think calls are useful right before the interview because discussion about the applicant takes place after the interviews.

Don't worry about the number of aways you do. If you have time, then do them.

Care to elaborate on what type of calls?

"This candidate is the real deal"?

Wouldn't they get that out of a letter as well?

just curious

Some of it has to do with nepotism. Some calls draw attention to the applicant. Calls help a little, but if the applicant doesn't walk the walk, then calls don't help.

I'm not advocating having people call on your behalf because calls can be annoying.
