Hey guys,

So I found out today that I got accepted to UNE. However, I mailed my non-refundable 1500 deposit to Campbell on Friday because I wasn't expecting to hear back so soon from other schools. I really don't know where to go. I'm a NY resident and there were things i liked/didn't like about each school. Campbell is new so I don't know how their rotations will work/residency placements but they seem to be heavily invested in their students academic success. On that note, they seem almost overbearing with their mandatory attendance.

I was very interested in UNE simply because of the location but they had a curriculum change recently which is slightly concerning and you have to set up your own rotations for 4th year which i don't know how I feel about. But they do have good residency placements...

Anyone have any advice? Ideally, i'd like to decide by Monday so I can cancel the check to Campbell if need be. Thanks in advance!

UNE without a doubt. It's established with a good reputation. What is Campbell's policy on rotations? Do they set them all up? What rotation requirements does UNE have for 4th year? If they don't have any required rotations and you're doing all electives, setting up your own isn't the end of the world (assuming they set up the rotations for 3rd year).

Either way, I'd choose UNE. The known over the unknown every time, in my opinion.

Can you put a stop payment on the check? I'd pick UNE. It's always been a good school.

I second the idea of calling the bank and stopping the payment. It's a dick move, but hey $1500 is a lot of money.

Do you really get to set up your entire 4th year? That's pretty cool. I would have liked that. Setting up rotations as a 4th year isn't too bad and if you are willing to travel you can get an amazing education or, if you prefer, a very very easy 4th year. Most hosptials take 4th year osteopathic students for rotations.

If you had to set up your 3rd year rotations I would tell you not to go to the school.

If your bank allows, you can even stop a check online. My bank allows for this to happen, but I don't think it goes through until the next business day. If your bank allows, then I would go ahead and fill out the form online to stop the check (assuming you decide to go to UNE) so that it will be completed as soon as the business day begins.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've been thinking about where to go all day and made a pros/cons list...definitely leaning towards UNE at the moment and will most likely cancel the check to Campbell tomorrow morning.

Also Call Campbell and ask them to not process the check. Tell them sorry, but over the weekend you decided ultimately you will have to attend elsewhere. I sent a check to a DPM program when I was still debating between DPM/DO, and called the DPM program Monday morning and they voided the check and sent it back to me. That and also stop the check via bank but it may not be necessary to do it.
