Predicament.......I decided to take Organic Chem I during the summer for 6 weeks and it looks like I'm going to get either a C- or D in the class. My home institution doesn't even know I'm taking this class at another university because I never told them. My question is this: Can I just go back to my home institution and act like I didn't take any summer classes and just take this class over at my home institution or would they find out? I am freaking out cause I have never gotten lower than a B and I should've known better than to take this class in 6 weeks but I had a family emergency which caused me to go to this school in the summer who only offered it for 6 weeks. 🙁

Can they find out? If they wanted to, I'm sure they can. But they wouldn't care... Maybe there are some exceptions (there are, after all, thousands of colleges in this country), but all they know and care about are what classes you're taking with them. Unless you wanted to transfer the credits from that other college to get out of some prereq (obviously not the case here), then I'd say no worries.

HOWEVER, what you will have to deal with when it's time to fill out that lovely AMCAS is the fact that you will have to list that C or D in O-chem from that other institution, even if you retake it at your home college and do much better. So it will still be factored into your undergrad GPA on AMCAS... See what I mean?

If you can drop the class still I would do that. You will need to submit every grade/drop/pass/fail you've completed to AMCAS, so if you finish it out with a poor grade it will still be factored into your AMCAS BCMP gpa and cumulative GPA, regardless of whether your primary institution knows or not.

I wish I could drop it but it was a 6-week course and it already finished on Friday. I just don't understand how AMCAAS would even find out that I took a class at another institution for the summer if I never reported it to my home institution so it wouldn't even be on my transcript. How does that work?

Do not lie on your AMCAS, ever. That shouldn't be an option.

AMCAS requires you to list every institution you've attended since high school. As for how they know...first, do you really want to take that risk of them finding out after you tried to hide it?? Second, there is a national clearinghouse where organizations such as AAMC can go to find information such as where you've attended school...

😕 These posts never cease to amaze me. Really? So you're planning on lying on your AMCAS application over one bad grade, which could result in your expulsion from medical school, if you are accepted under these false pretenses. Basically jeopardizing any hopes of a medical career...

Need I remind you that it is possible to find college's of registration on a background check. While it's probably unlikely, that's a fairly large gamble you are considering.

OP, here's where AAMC/AMCAS, as well as employers, etc can find out every school you've been enrolled in (including the one where you'll be getting your O-chem grade from ). http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/ And that's just the most popular one...there may be other similar services too. Sorry...

Wow. I didn't know all this. Thank you so much for all your help everyone. I definitely don't want to risk my chances with AMCAAS. I'm just praying for the C at least.🙁
