I don't see why not. Try fax or fed-ex?

If you email it, I think you should follow it up with a hardcopy and mention it in your email.

i did it as an email...just make sure you address to the right person and I think you're fine.

I wouldn't send an LOI via email. You want to show your committment to the school, that it is your top choice. Spend the $5 or so to get the letter over-nighted.

I will write it tonight and personally drop it off to the admisisions office tomorrow. Should I just send it to the Admissions office or to a dean? what do you think?

LOIs are pretty meaningless...so an email is fine -- it's more immediate than overnight and more likely to be filed away. if you overnight it or mail it, there will undoubtedly be some delay in getting it reviewed.

A letter of intent should be something they can put in your file. So make sure it's on paper.

So, it sounds like you should email admissions office and cc the dean of admissions. This way someone at the adcom meeting will know that the school is your first choice and this info won't be trapped in an unopened pile of mail.

You should also send the letter via regular mail to admissions office so it makes it into your file.

Maybe fax it as well...

I've been overnighing applications/letters to schools and wonder if it's worth it...it takes them forever to open the mail regardless of overnighting...

Remember when you mail something it doesn't get put directly in the hand of the person you've addressed it to as soon as it arrives at the school. It first goes to the school's mail center then sorted there which could take an other day or so. Then the school's mail person has to go around delivering mail, and they aren't always as efficient as the US post service.

I would e-mail it and in the e-mail mention that you will be sending a hard copy then just send a hard copy via normal mail. No need at that point to overnight it.

I wouldn't email it. That's somewhat unprofessional for communications such as this, still.

I wouldn't fax it either. Why is it so urgent it has to be faxed? Do they have to admit you immediately? They might wonder why you faxed it.

I wouldn't Fed-Ex it either. Why do you have to fed ex it? Is USPS mail just not worth it. Do they have to have the letter within one day? If I got a fedex package with one letter in it, I would think: this is kindof silly.

Why are you sending it straight to the Dean. I sent this letter to my interviewer, plus if you do that you can throw in a nice sentence about something you had previously talked about.

Many interviewers are finished with the admissions process after the interview is over.

They just fill out their form about you return it to the office of admissions and go on with their lives. Unless you know your interviewer is part of the admissions committee sending a letter of intent to your interviewer could really slow things down in getting that letter to the people who are making the actual decision.

I would say that addressing a letter of intent to the dean of admissions is actually the person the OP wants the letter to go to.

Now we are thinking!

This sounds a lot better. It makes SURE that the DOA gets your letter. Since we are utilize multiple modalities because the Office of Admission is untrustworthy, let me suggest a few other things to do in addition to your email and fedexed letter.

a) Add a USPS letter AND a Fedex overnight Express am delivery letter. That stuff needs to get there ASAP!

b) CC: the entire Committee on Admissions to your email. It's important that everyone be alerted to your important decision, not just the dean.

c) Fax the letter before you send one. Indicate on the fax that they should receive a battery of emails and a fedex copy.

d) Call the Dean and Assistant Dean at night and leave voicemail about your decision. Indicate the impending fax, slew of emails and fedexs he should be receiving shortly.

e) Send a singing telegram to the Office of Admissions. Although expensive, you can still find companies that do these. In the chorus of the telegram, mention upcoming calls, faxes, emails and fedex packages that will be bombarding the school shortly.

f) Send a birthday card in the Mail to each member of the Ad Com. Little do they know this is a LOI in disguise. Watch their surprise when they open the letter to reveal information more important than family wishes--your desire to attend their school!!

g) Send a package via local courier to the Admissions office. In the package should be a can of "peanuts." When the AD COM mentions what a nice gift they have received and opens the "can of peanuts" for a snack, they surprise unloads. In the classic gag, a spring snake leaps out of the box spewing confetti everywhere. Laughing hysterically, the Committee on Admissions starts to clean up the confetti and notices that on each piece, you have written a LOI in 2 point font.

h) Send Ed McMahon of Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes to the house of the Dean of Admissions in the evening while they are eating dinner. Have him come in and tell the Dean he has just won $2,000,000 in the Clearing House Sweepstakes. As the cameras are rolling, and his wife is crying with tears of joy, have Ed present the huge gag check to the Dean, but instead of a dollar amount being in the check, it is really a LOI. Everyone will start laughing their heart out as your admission that you will attend their school airs nationally.

Good luck,

Do you really think it matters what the admissions secretary thinks? ...... It doesn't

Great attitude: impress the admissions staff; to heck with everyone else!
