Can activities you are committed to but have not yet started be listed on your primary?

Assuming I want to do a year long service or research project during my gap year that won't start until August (but that I am accepted to / committed to doing), can I list it on my primary 15 activity slots or only on secondaries and updates? Does the primary ask how you plan to spend your gap?

The primary doesn’t ask what you’ll do during your gap year, but the vast majority of secondaries do, so you’ll have a chance to speak about it there.

Up to you whether you want to list it on your primary while inputting the projected hours/dates, but not strictly necessary (and some folks on sdn have discouraged it).

I didn’t put my gap year activity on my primary, but definitely included it on secondaries

Pretty sure you can’t put future dates for a start date for an activity.

I would recommend submitting as early as possible without including your gap year activity. Then, for those schools who don’t have a gap year related secondary, send them an update letter mid September.

N=1, but I put my gap year activity in my primary (Americorps), because I knew exactly what dates I would be serving, and how many hours are required. You can put that an activity WILL END at a future date, but you can't put that it WILL START at a future date, so I just put the date I typed it as the starting date, and the correct ending date, and in the activity description just put I will begin service on _____ date. I think it worked out well and it ensures that they will see how many hours I would be contributing and they can add them up right then. Also, not all of my secondaries gave me an opportunity to say what I am currently doing during the gap year!
