can amcas find out if you took a course and didn't report it

ok... i know this sounds dishonest, but i am really considering not reporting a foreign language course i took at a local community college this semester.

first of all, i can't find out whether or not i have a "w" or an "f" until june 10. even if i do get a "w" it might not appear on my transcript until the fall.

i'm not sure if i can say it is "current/future" coursework, because the class is technically over even though grades don't come out until june 10. i've gotten 2 different responses to this question from amcas over the phone. plus, i will have the grade by the time i'm allowed to submit my application on june 12.

they have told me they'll hold my application if i request a transcript exception b/c it's current/future and the transcript exception is denied. then i'll have to send the transcript (which, according the to cc's registrar, won't arrive until several weeks after i request it -- i.e. at least end of july i bet before amcas will get it).

oh yeah, and if i request the transcript now, i still don't know if i have an "f" or a "w", and the transcript won't be able to get to amcas until early july even if i put a rush on it. i dont even care if there is an f, but will it get put into my undergrad gpa?

so, what do you think? anyone? i've posted some of this story before, but now it's getting close to the time i can turn in the application and don't know what to do 😕

amcas really has no way of finding out i took this course, right? i'm just so frustrated. they make these rules b/c there are so many dishonest people out there, and it ends up hurting people like me who feel like they have to follow the rules all the time even though the rules shouldn't apply in certain situations like this.

thanks for letting me moan and complain 🙁 does anyone have any advice for me?

no they can't. a kid i knew didn't report a year he screwed up real bad in and transferred out of and he was fine (didn't report a whole year! .. but also did not transfer any credit). however, because its technically unethical (i'm sure poeple on the site will start yelling at you, even though it seems legit) i'm sure people wioll tell you that if a med school finds out after you are in they can kick you out, or take your lisence away later. technically. as long as you don't ever transfer the credit to your school, or unless you put it in the future course work section (who knows when you filled out your app) it should be passable.

I think the future coursework option might be the best route. This way you can submit your application early and fill update the grade later, if necessary. It probably won't ever be necessary to update it, but at least this way you are not lying about having taken a course.

mpp, that's what i was originally thinking until i found out that if they don't agree it's current/future coursework, my application will get held up <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Don't bother. Even if you put it in future coursework; what happens if you don't get an acceptance this year? Then it's out there forever.

I think that this brings up a good point. Those older students who have a degree and maybe a graduate degree, where do we put personal edification coursework taken after grad school? Mine went into my "Senior" year because there was no post bac option since the school was a Jr. College.

Very frustrating.

I too have a graduate degree and later classes at a CC. I put them all under post-bach. I was a senior about twenty years ago. It would have seemed silly to put them in that category. I believe AMCAS will adjust any mistakes we make anyway.

ok, it is really silly amcas will calculate personal edification coursework in your gpa! i should be reward for wanting to brush up on my spanish rather than be penalized!

as for the post-bac issue, even though the course is at a junior college, i am able to categorize it as post-bac. maybe this is a change from last year. i actually had it under junior college (since it was at a junior college), but i spoke with amcas on the phone, and the guy told me to put it as post-bac since i already have my degree.

I did the same last year. I put every course I have taken since I received my degree as a post-baccalaureate course.
