A drug should be infused at 185 mg/h to maintain a steady-state plasma concentration of 500 mg/L. If 250 ml of an IV solution contains 2.75 g of drug, at what flow rate (in ml/min) should the solution be administered to maintain a Css of 500 mg/L?


It looks easy but I am stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated.
 
I am not sure if i did this right either but, here:

the rate should be 0.28ml/min

2.75g/250ml = .185g/Xml this comes out to 16.8ml/hr
/60=0.28ml/min
 
0.28ml/min is correct.

And it is easy.
 
Of course it is easy, it is a one compartment kinetic model. . . . i mean come on =O. Does it get any easier??? Maybe the poster didnt read the question more carefully?
 
Here's the solution using dimensional analysis approach:

185 mg/h x 1g/1000mg x 250 ml/2.75g x 1h/60 min = 0.28 ml/min

Starting with the desired dose or rate usually will get you on the right track.
