Hello all, I'm just looking for some advice and this thread caught my attention. Do you think I will be able to gain acceptance into a program with a 2.9-3.0 UG gpa and a 20 MCAT? (Took the MCAT without studying much at all, while taking Orgo 2 and an upper level bio course. Also took the DAT and got a 16 (again not much studying). Plan to retake one or both in March, but also plan to apply for a program before then) Any advice appreciated!

Thanks!

Do you "plan" to return to every thread you spammed this into?

Haha, seriously. One thread is enough. You can see me response in the Georgetown thread.

Thanks for your guy's responses and yes I do plan to return to all of them, as you can see I reply to them all since they are different programs and such 🙂 Thanks!

I would decide between the two and not study for both. An SMP is a big commitment, and you should know what you want to get out of it prior to applying.

I don't know what the point of that was...good to know you can use copy and paste.

Yikes, consider this thread dead.

Agtongue I'm so sorry! I didn't read the bottom your post and I thought you were just copying and pasting me question again, which is why I said "I don't know what the point of that was" I really appreciate you replying, again I am really sorry about that. :lame:

I think you replied to it before I added the last part (posting from my phone is difficult)

Phew! If you don't mind me asking do you know anything about the harvard extension? I emailed someone there and they told me not to even both applying with a 2.9 GPA...is this normal? I read on their site that you can go there with below a 3.0 so I'm not sure, any advice appreciated!

I went there. I don't think you will be a candidate for their formal program because you have taken some of the pre-req classes already. However, in your case HES would be a great idea to take upper-level science courses informally and rock them. Meanwhile, study for the MCAT and start looking into SMP applications. I think this is the most effective way for you.

This is a good suggestion. If you have taken a bunch of science courses you will hit diminishing returns on how much improvement you can make to your cGPA and sGPA. Those of us who were not science majors and didn't have the best sGPA in undergraduate are able to rapidly improve it before diminishing returns kick in. The prior MCAT score of 20 shows that you did not grasp your undergraduate science coursework. You may need to retake some of those courses before you are ready to retake.

What undergraduate science courses have you taken thus far?
