Technically you can do this. However this practice is generally frowned upon. Programs specifically give a limit (usually 4) on how many letters to send. Upload more than that – demonstrates you can't follow directions.

And much like we don't like reading 2 page personal statements, we don't like reading more than 4 LORs.

Thanks

one the LOR's I am submitting isn't a LOR. Its a letter from the PD of the program I am leaving. I wanted to use 4 LOR's but since this one eats up a slot its limiting me. Any suggestions ?

This letter is about 200x more important than any of the other letters you have. It doesn't so much "eat up a slot" as it "allows you the possibility of moving on with a career in medicine." Seriously, without this letter (assuming it says good things about you), nobody will care how many other letters you have, or how good they are.

My suggestion is to pick the 3 you think are the strongest and go with that. 4 LORs is more than enough.

what makes it that important? because it's from the home PD?

It sounds like PPGMD is a current resident leaving a program to apply to another residency.

Agree with gutonc’s double post. A letter from your current PD (i.e. your boss) allows future employers to know that you are leaving the program in good standing, and that you are a decent kid who deserves another shot somewhere else. Much like any other job search, a reference from your current employer is a must.

And it most certainly counts as a LOR.

How are you even able to assign more than 4 letters per program? Isn't the ERAS limit 4 / prgm ????

If bringing a 5th letter to an interview is helpful, should it be sealed and signed?

Is bringing supplemental material (e.g. LOR, new publications, Step 2 score, newly released grades from your school) to an interview welcomed or irritating?

You can de-assign letters, and then add more letters. However, just because you CAN do this doesn't mean you SHOULD do it. In fact, I highly suggest you do not do this.

Additional LOR's will really not change your application much.

If you have new pubs, you should definitely bring that with you.

If you have a new Step 2 score, release it via ERAS. Do not bring a copy of your score report.

If you have new grades, you can either bring them or have your school re-upload your transcript (if they are willing to do so).
