Hello all,

I have found the forum very interesting and have learned a lot. I am a nontraditional new predent. I start my first class, gen chem 1, tomorrow. I have beent trying to figure out my schedule of when I can finish my prerequisites and it appears that I can finish by next Christmas. This is great, but it seems as though it puts me in the middle of the application cycle. I am wondering if there is a way I can apply and not lose a year and a half.

Basically, I need to take all of the predental requirements; 2 chems, 2 ochems, 2 bios, 2 physics. Here is what I have mapped out.

> Winter 07 Chem 1
> Spring 07 Chem 2, Bio 1, Phy 1
> Summer 1 OChem 1
> Summer 2 OChem 2
> Fall 07 Bio 2, Phy 2

So far, I have almost twenty hours shadowing with approximately twenty more scheduled. I would have to make some relationships with professors rather quickly for LORs, but it seems terrible to waste another year on this.

I know that physics is not on the DAT, but if I took it in August or so, how much would I be missing by not having Bio 2?

Does anyone think I can still apply for the next cycle? Any help is appreciated.

I'd wait and space things out into another year. You still need to take the DAT which it seems you won't have all the proper coursework for until after next fall semester (bio 2). You could still pull it off I'm sure but why sacrifice good stats just to sneak in a year early? Unless you know for sure you can deal with all this you might find yourself with low scores and no acceptances - so you'd have to reapply for 2009 after spending lots of money and time.

Your call. Ask yourself - can you deal with the coursework and still get *competitive* stats?

I just thought of something. I think I remember hearing once that Ochem 2 isn't really covered on the DAT, is that correct? If so, I could take Bio2 in the summer then, Ochem 2 and Phy 2 in the fall.

Thoughts?

I took the DAT 3 times because I couldn't get a good score on the Organic Chem the first two times. All three of my tests were about 50% Ochem 2. I got a 21 on that section after I took the class. Without it, I got a 15 and 14.

All thoughts are greatly appreciated. I was wondering if anyone has taken the DAT without Bio 2? I would really love to save myself a year and a half is possible. Thanks.

I took the DAT before I took ANY BIO classes and I had to study like crazy to learn all of the material. However, I was VERY comfortable with the chem and ochem material so I hardly studied for those sections at all.

Wow, you apparently did pretty well judging by your acceptances. Do you care to share your study regiment and study sources. Also, did you end up applying late and without all of your prerequisites?

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it, this is a big deal for me and could make a big difference in some life aspects for me.
