I'm not sure why some of you keep saying that choosing a doctor you are most comfortable with is racist. In high school and college, you look around and often you see little cliques of asian kids hanging out, AA kids, hispanic kids, and white kids forming little groups. Are they all racist because they happen to be more comfortable with one another due to the things they have in common? I don't think so.... so why then would it be racist for a patient to prefer a doctor that they might feel more comfortable with (especially since being a patient is already uncomfortable, these things might take on more importance)?
On another note, if you disagree with me, and think that being more comfortable with those who share your background IS racist, then my problem here is that certain "racists" aren't being forced to challenge their racism because they will have no trouble finding an ORM doctor. Not sure why it's fair for the elderly black man to have to get over his discomfort with white docs, when white and asian patients rarely have to go out of that comfort zone. I don't personally think these people are necessarily racist for being more comfortable with ORM docs, as per the paragraph above I don't throw that term around easily, just saying that it's easy to say an AA patient should just get over the discomfort without thinking about how difficult it would be for some whites and asians to go to an AA doc. Fortunately for them, they do not have to struggle with that reality.
