Greetings everyone 🙂

In the part of the country where I live, there is about 594 000 people who live there, and so far there have been 4 reported cases of the prion disease - CJD. In the city where I live recently two older people died from it. 1 of these had a familial form of the disease and these 3 are thought to be all sporadic. There were no infected cattle at all, and no vCJD cases were ever reported.

Since that is close to me, is there any risk to get infected through dental procedures? I've been going since I know for myself to a state dentist, who is also an oral surgeon, and is there any risk of me (or anyone else from my place) catching the disease from dental procedures?

I'm pretty sure he uses the latest sterilization techniques (he always had the most modern equipment for the time), but is that enough? I was reading that common sterilization doesn't kill prions....but I must point out that he doesn't use gloves, but the overall level of hygiene is on a high level from my perspective.

Thanks in advance for the reply.
