Hello friends,

I am in a pickle but I'll keep it short.

I applied to two schools, I got into one and wait listed at my dream school. I stupidly applied for the summer cohort (starts April 30th), instead of the fall, for my back up school and my dream school starts in August.

My question is, if I get off the wait list after April 30th, can I pull out of that school in order to go to my dream school? Or am I stuck once I start?

Thanks in advance for your advice, I really need it 🙂

Hey! Congrats on your acceptance! Is this for Chapman University? I don’t think you’ll be able to do that. For starters, you’re going to need to pay your first semesters tuition by your start date. Also, I feel like programs have a way of knowing once you start a program through PTCAS. I’m not certain though. If I was you, I would contact the admissions of your dream school and notify them about your conflict. If anything it might help your chances for getting off the waitlist sooner!

Thanks for the reply! And that is exactly what I was thinking! And yes for Chapman 🙂 I'm excited to start but I want a public CSU soo bad!

Yes! It's so much cheaper! And no I want SDSU!
I just hope I pulled off before the start date, but if not it's all good. I'm just excited to finally start 🤣

Hi! I’m actually in the same position! I was wondering the same thing, I got accepted for the summer but I am waitlisted to a few CSU schools. I’m hoping to get off a waitlist before April 30th, but I feel like the chances are pretty slim. From what I heard from people who were waitlisted to CSU’s, they didn’t received acceptances until June-August.

I was accepted and will be attending sdsu. The deadline for us to submit our intent passed. And as of right now it looks like mostly everyone accepted there position. But hopefully you will get good news. Hope this helps.

Is there a way you could defer your admission to the first school to the fall instead of the summer? That might buy you some time to get off the waitlist at the other school

I believe that once you start attending a school you have to reject all other acceptances, I remember in one orientation that they said it's also a rule you have to follow from the APTA. So I highly doubt you can start at one school and jump ship into another if you were to get off the waitlist. Plus you would be flushing a lot of money down the drain just for a chance at another school. Hopefully you can defer your admissions as the other poster said and try to wait it out to get into your dream school. If not, it's up to you to decide whether it's worth the gamble to get off a waitlist and not attend school this cycle, or attend a school that's not your top choice. I hope things work out for you though!

I know of 2 students in my class who did this! They started in the summer at private schools, then got off the wait lists at the state school and started there in the fall. Yes, they did pay for the full summer tuition but they said the overall amount they were going to save was well worth it.

Really?! That's crazy! So even though they started at the private school...their name was still on the waitlist. Interesting 😏

Yeah, I hear the exact same thing! I'm also waitlisted at CSUN so hopefully we get pulled off before...
I almost want to risk it and pull out, but I'd be devastated if I end up getting rejected. Glad to know I'm not alone!!:highfive:
