Hi guys. I'm totally type A and constantly worry about getting into grad school, even though I'm a Sophomore. I was wondering if you guys could give me some feedback if I could realistically get into a DPT program? I don't know who else to ask...

School: Winona State University
Major: Kinesiology
Minor: Psychology/Dance
GPA: 3.56
Pre-Req GPA: Around a 3.5
GRE: Not taken yet
Experience: Rehab Tech (over 200 hours), inpatient observation hours (20), am a health coach for the local hospital, FRAME club (working with D2 football players for rehab), movement science club, choreographer and dancer for my school's dance department

Do you guys think I could get in anywhere? I'm just freaking out about my grades.

Thanks!

You're fine. If you're worried about your GPA, use the remaining two years to bring it up!

Definitely, especially if you do somewhat well on the GRE.

Since you're a Sophomore and have time, I would also suggest getting observation hours in varied settings.

Get more varied hours in different settings. My cGPA was a 3.29 with a varying pGPA and I got multiple acceptances. Do well on the GRE and you're fine.

Most of the schools I applied to required more than 20 hours of inpatient experience, so I recommend working on that. Your GPA is ok, theres always time to bring it up but I don't think it'll hold you back if you do well on the GRE. Good luck!

Your GPA is decent. Make sure to ace the GRE too. But most importantly, get those observation hours up. Even if you have stellar stats, most schools won't even glance at you if your hours don't hit their minimum mark.

In my case, I did not have a stellar GPA. I graduated last year with a 3.4 but got a 159 V / 161 Q / 5 AW on my GRE. I have a lot of hours though, at least 2000 hours working as a PT aide in an outpatient facility and shadowing a home health and inpatient PT. I think because of my hours and my extracurricular activities (plus some rocking LOR and a pretty decent personal statement), I was able to get into USC (waitlisted at CSULB but I have my fingers crossed!)! 🙂

You're only a sophomore so you have a lot of time. Keep working hard to bring your GPA as much as you can. Do well on the GRE and try to get those observation hours in. The hours are important 'cause they give you a chance to experience the PT world too so you don't want to miss out on that. Above all, just do you. In the end, you'll end up where you need to be so don't stress too much. Good luck! 🙂

Most PT program avg are near 3.5, so you're fine.
Just don't go below 3.0.
I had a 3.2 and got 5 interviews; as long as you are over the minimum GPA, schools will look and consider you for an interview for sure.
One thing I recommend is, invest in an organization.
This will show characteristic of doing "more", working with fellow peers, willing to volunteer time to the community, and leadership potential.

GOODLUCK!
