I'm a student at a community college, who has had some....troubles with my grades. I'm more than capable and am not going to make any excuses for myself, the fact is that I didn't take my academics seriously, and up until a couple of semesters ago, i had bounced around majors and couldn't find exactly what i wanted. That was until, i realized how badly I want to work in medicine, and always had but never allowed myself to devote all of myself to academics. Now i feel different, and have for months about this, constantly studying and making sure i am the student i know i can be. I'm sitting on a 2.03 GPA with 31 credits, and 48 attempted, and i'm fixing two grades of mine this semester alone, and plan on having a major facelift of my transcript. So with 1/4 of my college credits completed, and 3 A's coming in this semester, what are my chances as a 19 year old student fixing my past mistakes and getting into med school before i'm 25? I know what i need to get into a med school, just don't know if i have a shot of completing them....any advice, super critical or supportive is not only welcome, but necessary 🙂

Get a grade-replacement worksheet from this forum start calculating your GPA at the end of senior year for DO.

31 credits is nothing. You can probably fix that with all A's in a Spanish or Psychology minor, if you're not doing grade replacement.

Be sure that you're accurate about your abilities, though. Many people underestimate medical school, upper-division courses, and/or the MCAT.

The only thing I am really qualified to say is do not give up. I was in pretty much the same situation as you, although my GPA was probably around a 2.2. Three semesters later, I am above a 3.0 for the first time in a long time. You have a long road ahead of you, so don't give up and don't take no for an answer.

Cheer up it's only your freshman year. You have still have plenty more years to get A's to make up for your grades as of now. If you just re-do the classes you didn't do so well in and get close to straight A's in your next classes you will be fine, but seriously, re-take those classes if you can. It will be your second time through which should go smoother since you know what to expect. If you do all this along with extracurricular + research+ volunteer work, then you will be in good shape. Just try to get you GPA up past 3.5+ which I believe is the national average now.
Oh and also I urge you to transfer to a four year soon because Medical Schools don't look favorably on Junior colleges. 🙂

Short answer: Yes you can, you have plenty of time to bounce back.
