I Have already graduated with a gpa of 2.8 and science around 2.6. I was looking into informal/formal post bacc options and was wondering if i could just retake most of my science classes at a community college. therefore, i could then apply to DO schools with a good MCAT and hopefully get in.

Im just a bit skeptical on the community college thing. i have heard its better to do it at state schools and some say its ok to do them at a CC for DO school but not med school. Does it really make a big difference? Info would be greatly appreciated..thanks.

DO schools reject 60% of applicants, just like MD schools, and they're just as wary of sub-3.0 GPAs and just as judgmental of school rigor. If you have no choice but to do GPA improvement at a CC, then finish with a term at a university. Take some upper div science (micro, immuno, biochem etc) there to show that your CC performance isn't a lark. And your CC performance needs to be stellar.

Look at the DO SMPs as well. (Search for the 2008 SMP list.)

Best of luck to you.

I just took my pre-req at CC.. and i got accepted to post bac..
I really feel.. it dependents how well you do and the reputation of the CC. If i were u look at u're CC ranking.. The CC I went to happens to have really good ranking in the state of OHIO. actually one of the best.. I found this out after attending hte CC..
I would also try to get into some research at u're CC by taking the research credit and just not volunteer..
I feel a students can do variety of things at a CC than going to state university.. because once you go to a state college u're just among the 100 other students who are taking their classes.. at CC u get a chance to get into independent research.. tutoring students... TA and various other things..
