I don't think there is any way to preview the application. As far as recommendations, I suggest getting in contact with LOR writers and having that process underway. Also, it might be beneficial to have a list of your shadowing dates, hours, and locations, and the same for volunteering. I'll see if I have a printed copy of my app and see if there is anything else I can suggest from that.
Edit: I found an application guide I had downloaded prior to starting the application that provides a good overview. Note: this was valid for this most recent cycle, but I cannot guarantee that the application has not changed.
Completing the Application
Menus: Familiarize yourself with them so you don’t miss important features or info.
Section 1: Biographical Info
Section 2: Parent and Family Information
Section 3: Secondary (High School) Information
Section 4: Colleges Attended
Send Transcripts as soon as AADSAS is submitted
Use provided Transcript Matching Form
Section 5: Coursework
You will need fully updated transcripts from every College you’ve attended
This is very tedious – don’t make any mistakes!!!
Be sure to enter classes currently “in-progress” and future planned classes.
Your College GPA and your AADSAS GPA will vary.
Section 6: DAT Scores
Schools require the official score report from the ADA for your DAT
You can specify a future date you intend to take the DAT and edit it after submitting your AADSAS App.
Section 7: Dentistry Experience
Schools seem to really be looking for this now. (100 to 200 hours)
Keep a good record as you Shadow to make this section easier.
Section 8: Evaluators
Schools have varying requirements for Letters of Evaluations (LOE’s)
Use provided LOE Matching Form
Plan your evaluators in advance and choose them wisely!
Provide evaluators info about yourself like transcripts, personal statement, etc.
Generally best to “waive right to see the LOR”
Section 9: Extracurricular / Volunteer / Community Service
Schools really want to see significant community involvement (minimum of 200 hours)
Track these well as you volunteer so you can complete this section.
Section 10: Work Experience
Section 11: Research Experience
Section 12: Background Information
This includes manual dexterity experience
Section 13: Personal Statement
This is your chance to point out your strengths.
The Official Guide to Dental Schools (from ADEA) and the ASDA Handbook both have sections on the personal statement.
Prepare this before AADSAS application opens!
Have the pre-dental advisors review your personal statement and provide feedback.
Be unique and memorable (not trite), but, do not come across us eccentric.
Review the sample personal statements of former UNMPDS members who have been accepted at the UNMPDS site.
4500 characters including spaces (approx 1 typed single spaced page)
Section 14: Release Statements
Section 15: Awards, Honors, Scholarships
Include everything (Deans List, Honors, Non-Academic Recognitions, etc)
Section 16: Dental School Designations
After you submit, you can’t go back so triple check your app before submitting!
