Recently got accepted by a great school that I really like so I am so happy and grateful. I am thinking of withdrawing from 3 schools who have invited me to interview as they are so far away from my home and I would need to spend thousands on airplane tickets, hotels, ubers, food, and etc.

I already really like the school that I got into and would choose to go to this school over the schools that have invited me. However, the only reason on why I don't want to drop these interviews is because I hate giving up opportunities. Then again, it is so costly to attend the interviews. Anyone in a similar situation and has any thoughts or insight that can help me make my decision.

If you’re sure you wouldn’t attend over your current acceptance, go ahead and withdraw.

Yes, and drop the interview spots sooner rather than later. Not only will you save being saving $$$ on travel, but your interview spot could go to someone else who would want to attend said schools.

Congrats!

Yeah my only concern is that I would be losing an opportunity that I would love. What if I fall in love with the schools I interview at?

Update: Decided that I'm going to withdraw from the interviews. Let others have a chance

Any merit scholarship possibilities at the schools you are planning to withdraw?

This is like saying "why should I marry Joe, because what if I fall in love with somebody else who's even better in the future?"
Grow a spine and make a decision already

I withdrew from 3 today. If you’ve been accepted to a school you know you would go to over the other institutions and you received a scholarship offer already I would think it’s safe.

Also, 9 acceptances?! Congrats! That is amazing! 🙂

I feel there's no need to be abrasive like this. This is a time fraught with anxiety for many and I find it demeaning to tell someone to "grow a spine and make a decision already." Just my $0.02

Sometimes a little tough love is needed. OP themselves explained perfectly why the school is a good choice for them.

@Goro normally I am on your side...but this early in the cycle...the day after A day...you’re being kind of an dingus

Edit: dang SDN autocorrect bad word filter....

In only a few years some patients WILL call you a "piece of $@#%" directly in your face so I don't think that Goro's comment is even remotely abrasive 😉

Those are entirely unrelated topics. Choosing a medical school vs. dealing with verbal harassment...

Both cause an emotional response and need a degree of being able to brush it off. One more than the other. However, I see your point.

I can't believe you just compared a rude patient to a trusted Adcom bro, what a terrible equivalency
Yes, I did compare them. And I stand by my conclusion that one’s comment is not as offensive as to the other.

Just to clarify - My intention was far from claiming that they are on the same level. In fact, I meant to claim the opposite.

Are you serious??? it doesn’t make any sense! You hate giving up opportunities for what? For turning down an offer? That’s so sick.

Can you read before you comment? I literally gave up the offers for others to have a chance. This is getting irritating at this point
Yeah I did read before commenting. I just found your initial questions completely and utterly nonsensical.

Guys:
OP is asking a legitimate question.
He was unsure of whether to give up future opportunities or whether to go ahead and interview at other schools with the possibility that he might like something better. It didn’t involve risking what he already had, so the marriage analogy doesn’t exactly fit here, although I can understand the gompatison.
He did state that he was giving up his offers; so it is not fair to bash him. Just my opinion.

Lol so I post a question, answered my own question, and acted in the best interest of all premeds.

Then @Goro and you felt the need to call me out for being ridiculous and needing to grow a spine even tho that’s practically unnecessar.

Now I remember why I took a long break from this website and why every premed I’ve met on the interview trail considers this place to be toxic af.

The Ignore function is a wonderful thing.
