I really don't know what my chances are of applying this cycle. I have an overall gpa of 3.18, science gpa of 3.02. My DAT academic average is 20, and PAT is 26. Do I have any chance at all of getting in anywhere?? help please 🙁

Maybe. Probably somewhere. It's been done with worse. $ is probably the biggest factor now. What's the status of your letters (or potential)? Shadowing? Statement? Have you graduated? Are you taking more classes? Are you smoking hot!!!

well if the average accepted gpa and dat is 3.6 and 20 then there's probably plenty of people with 3.6 and 20 AA who didn't get accepted to their state school...where do you think that puts you with a 3.0 and 20...if you did get accepted, it's not going to be at your state school...it'll probably be some new overpriced dental school

Are you smoking hot!!!
srsly, how is it that the average dental student is more attractive than the average person...maybe when it comes down to picking two applicants with similar stats, they'll pick the more attractive one...

I'd like to point out that if the average accepted gpa/dat is 3.6 and 20, most likely not everyone who was accepted had 3.6 and 20s. People with higher scores most likely got in, meaning people with lower scores than the average also got in.

That being said, more information is required.

physical attributes aside, the rest of your application can help shore up your lower GPA. If you're severely lacking in the shadowing, extra curriculars, and have weak letters of recommendation.. then you might be in trouble

Thanks for your help. I have about 200 shadowing/internship hours, I have a few community service extracurriculars, and I'm hoping that my recs are pretty good. I think I have a pretty good personal statement. Just not sure if all this is enough to make up for my low gpa

Applying early (complete application), willing to apply a little broad ($), and willing to accept that you might end up at a pretty pricey school ($$) gives you a decent shot, despite the GPA. What would you do if you waited it out to address the GPA?
