Should I do extracurricular activities instead of working? MY parents do not support me so I have to work. If I work I wouldn't be able to attend meetings and participate.

Thank you

Lots of people study, go to class full time, work part time jobs, have families, and still have time to volunteer shadow, and do something to show interest in the profession. Have parents that don’t pay for your stuff is no excuse for a lack of ECs. Take out loans if you need to cut the part time work or learn to adapt.

There are EC which you can fit in your life, you don'y have to be a member of some clubs. Reading, running, biking are still EC. Same as knitting in front of the TV

I am a full time student, wife, and stepmom with two part time jobs with extensive EC and volunteering. That made me a strong applicant because it shows I can handle a lot on my plate - but my point is if there was one seat left and our GPAs/DAT scores were similar... who do you think they would choose? My guess wouldn't be the person who only had a job.

From what I've seen, a meaningful PT job (i.e. not tutoring or retail) can be more beneficial than being Eboard of a club on campus, especially if you add in the fact that your parents are not supporting you. That's what I could tell from my experience at least.

I think you should work instead, but I've always thought clubs were kind of an irrelevant experience. Make sure you take time to volunteer, but I wouldn't hesitate to work. It's pretty foolish to not go make some money if you need it.

Work shows you are a independent person with a sense of responsibility. If you can do both that would be awesome.

Just join a few clubs. Most clubs don’t even meet more than 3 timis s a month. It’s not that hard to have a job and ec
