Can programs see that you took CK?

I was under the impression that if you take CK after September 1 you do not have to release your scores. Recenlty, though, I haerd that programs can see that you took it even if you dont release the scores. Is this true? If so it seems as though there is no point to the concept of waiting until after September 1 because if you don't release your scores I asume that would look just as bad as having done poorly on it.
