I can't get a straight answer out of AADSAS itself, and there are answers saying both yes or no all over the forum.

Does anybody know definitively whether or not schools can see how many or which other schools an applicant applied to? It asks on the supplementals, and if they have no other way of knowing, I would prefer not telling them I applied to 15+ schools. Thanks!

Trying to lie by omission or commission is never a good idea when applying to professional schools.

Be honest and tell them. If they don't ask in the app, they'll still probably ask at the interview. It's not like they're offended at you trying to maximize your chances at getting into a dental school.

Why would they ask other than wanting to know if you this is one of your top choices? So you're telling me it doesn't hurt you at all to be applying to a school and they see this is just one of 20 schools you applied to?

I don't see how it hurts you, unless you explicitly say that their school is not your top choice. They understand that it is hard to get into dental school and that you might not get your first choice, but then again maybe they won't get theirs, either. Applying to many schools isn't treason to any one school.

No, unless you tell them, they do not know how many schools you applied to. They also generally won't directly ask you where else you applied, but rather, "how is the interview process going?" or "where do you see yourself ending up after graduation?"

Personally, I would lie and list a lower number on those supplemental questions. This question is asked because it is a factor in that school's application process. Worst case scenario, if you and another applicant are identical in all aspects, but he applied to 8 schools while you applied to 16 schools, who do you think is more likely to get the acceptance offer?

That's exactly what I'm saying...if it didn't matter or have any bearing on their application process, why would they ask it? Don't think they would waste their time having one more answer to read on thousands of applications just for fun.

Put down either all of them or 10 of them because if you put none, they will take it as you being too over confident. "I know for sure I will get in this school, so why apply to others."

I don't see how they would because if you download their application that should be the information that they receive... That being said, I would disagree with some people here. Starting off professional school by lying to the school seems like a terrible idea to me. I would put down all the schools you are applying to and just make sure you have a reason for each one. There is nothing wrong with applying broadly and in fact, pretty much every single thread on this website says to apply to 10-15+ schools. If you really don't want to say the actual number I would say that currently, you have planned to apply to **insert 12ish schools here** but that you are still considering applying to others.

I suppose it's possible they were bluffing but I had an interview where I was asked "I see you applied to a lot of schools can you explain how you decided which ones and why our school made the list"? That school didn't have the "how many and which schools you applied to" question on their supplement

There is no bluffing involved. They simply wanted to know if you chose their school as a result of throwing a dart on a board with a list of dental schools.

I got asked at a bunch of interviews what other schools I applied to, something to the extent of "so where else have you applied? And why is our school the one?" Like someone else said, I don't think you should lie, just be prepared to give a reason for the schools you applied to. I think what they're looking for are anomalies; for example: 9/10 of the schools I applied to were in the Northeast because that's were I'm from. I also applied to Dental College of Georgia, which some interviewers questioned (my parents are planning on moving to Atlanta for retirement). In my opinion, they're looking for a pattern to see if you're really serious about the school or if it's just a random add-on
