Can someone explain the curve?

This has probably been asked before but I'm confused as to what the Dat's curve is based on. Is it based on scores from ppl who take the same test as you? ALL previous tests ever taken? Or maybe something else all together.

Also, if it is indeed based on scores from people testing at the same time, wouldn't the curve be better if you avoided the time of year when a lot of people are taking it? 😕

The next step is to convert your raw score to a standard score. The standard scores on the DAT
are reported on a scale ranging from 1 to 30. The mean of the test is approximately 17 but varies from test to test, and test date to test date, depending on the distribution of ability in the persons taking each test.To find your standard score, locate the appropriate column for the test you just scored on the Standard Scoremaw Score Conversion Table.
