Can someone please answer Board questions

I'm just starting to look into optometry as a career and am confused about the different boards. When do students take the NBEO? After the NBEO does an optometrist have to take another board for each state they practice in? Also, I gather there is a lot of discussion on Board Certification will this replace anything else or is it an entirely new certification?
