Can someone please explain to me the difference b/w "pre-Dec"/"post-Dec"?

Ok so I'm reading so many threads and in each one we get a mention of "pre-Dec" and "post-Dec" interviews and such...may someone please clarify the importance of Dec. 1...is this also the day that applicants receive rejections/acceptances if they interviewed before? I'm one of the late submitters (app mailed Sept. 1), so should I expect to hear from anyone right now, or are schools on a hold till after Dec. 1? thanks

Hi eddie, pre-dec interviews are better because as you stated, the decisions come out on dec 1st.
If someone interviews after dec 1st, in some cases they are the "back ups" for schools.
I think you have great stats, just sit tight i am sure you will hear back soon.

Its technically the first day schools are allowed to send acceptances. For the most part, pre-dec interviews are awarded to the more competitive candidates given all of their materials were received in a timely manner. Statistically (again, for the most part), your chances for an acceptance are higher in this category. Even though you applied late, you have great stats, and should be able to tally up a couple interviews and acceptances as the cycle progresses. Just don't hold those post December acceptances too long, bc people like me might need them!

I wish I would have found out about this website earlier and known the importance of applying early...but you seriously think I'll get only 2 interviews?...now I'm nervous, I hope I don't have to wait till the next cycle...I submitted my app Aug. 15, and had no clue it takes 2 weeks to send it out...I guess I should just be patient and hope for the best.

hey bro, i'm in the same exact boat, but about a month later 🙁. at this point, most schools have had my stuff for at least 6 weeks now, but i guess that's not enough time for review.

i have only 1 interview (my state school). you want to trade me your Columbia interview for my UNLV? 😛

You two will be fine. Competition is increasing and applying early is important. But your statistics are great and I imagine everything will work out. You just may not know by December 1st
