Can someone post their school's step-by-step guide for using Interfolio

My school does not have a letter writing service and I'm trying to figure out how to manage sending letters to 27 different schools. I want to use interfolio.com so I'd like to know all the steps involved. Do I have people mail their LOR's to the company? What does sending electronically mean and is it better? What's involved in setting up an account? How much does everything cost?

hey buddy,

Well first you gotta sign up with them and then you have a "portfolio" of documents.

You print out a confidentiality form or "waiver" from their website, then you give the form to your letter writers. Your LOR writers can either send or fax the LOR to interfolio. Interfolio then puts the letter in your portfolio, which is available online.

As far as resumes and transcripts and other things. you can upload those directly to your interfolio account. Everything will be converted to PDF and put online. However, if your letters are confidential, then you will not be able to view their contents, only the file size. Then, everytime you want something sent, you pay the fee and they send it for you promptly.

hey medi,

just fyi, some of my LOR writers were questioning the validity of interfolio. I called interfolio and had them email me a list of all the schools that are partnered with them (it has a lot of really good schools on the list including one that is near my school). it went a long way toward convincing the writers that the service is, indeed, legit. don't know if you have this problem, but it really helped me.

Um...27 schools? You sure you dont want to lessen that amount?

Just my advice, but each one has a secondary with essays and must be returned in a timely fashion. Granted they may not all give them to you, but still needs to be considered.

Then there is the price and time consumed by interviews. Again, just my advice, but you may want to cut that down to 20.

Just my 2 cents. If you feel you can handle them then more power to you.

I'm applying to all the california schools, all of which are pretty hard to get into. So that adds 8 schools on top of my 19. From what I understand most schools don't have a big essay portion on their secondaries.
