I have not participated in pre-dental societies or any other organized dentistry experiences.

I am not looking for your answer or to copy your interview response. I just want to talk about this with you all because I am feeling really insecure about all this since it's post December interview and there are not many seats to go around.

Is anyone else in a similar situation?

Thank you!😍

at the time i submitted my application, i had ~45 hours, so it didnt really hold me back any. however, it probably just depends on the school. Also, my school didnt have a predental society either.

I have a decent amount of shadowing..60-ish hours. However, I know that some schools do not find this as an adequate amount of time to KNOW that you want to do dentistry.

Is anyone else in a similar situation? How do you feel about shadowing and the perception that 60 hrs may not be adequate? Any advice for me?

I had around 60 hours of shadowing and no fancy societies or any other dental experience. Then again, I also spent a lot of my free time reading about dentistry, current technologies, issues, etc. 60 hours is plenty of shadowing so long as you can convey that you have put the effort into educating yourself about the profession.

I was just accepted on my first try with less than perfect DAT scores. The admissions committee told me it was my interview and personal statement that really impressed them...During my interview, I was able to express an informed opinion about all topics of dentistry, and only SOME of that came from my shadowing experience...

Me too. Only one school mentioned the small amount of shadowing but they accepted me anyway. Also I joined a predental club in the middle of my senior year (because I felt like I had to) and never participated so I didn't even put it on my app.

I didnt have that many hours.. along the lines of 50ish.. I got in.... I was also never in a pre-dental society (my school didnt have any) but I was in the pre-health club
