Can you defer if accepted as a GW alternate?

I am on the alternate list at GW and am wondering if there is an option to defer to the following year if I get off of the wait list? Any thoughts?
 
i dont knwo about GW but in UM if u wanted to be remain in the waiting list u had to sent an email.
