Sure, if he or she is someone who knows you well and could write you a could recommendation.

as previously mentioned if the major advisor knows you well then it will be extremely helpful getting that letter of rec 🙂 during interviews, your interviewer might mention the letter and you can start a conversation from there (like how you have done well in classes, thought carefully about entering the health care professional field, etc.)
