Can you send in your application before you take the DAT?

Hello all,

I am new to this SDN Forum and I am wondering if a prospective Dental Student can apply to various dental schools and then later send in their DAT scores.

Is this common?

Yes that is what you want to do if you are not taking the DAT before May 15th. It does not take long for the scores to reach the school (about 2 weeks). Do not delay having your application in before the score as in peak periods of application submissions AADSAS may take up to 6 weeks to process them.

About May 15th, this seems to be a very important day. Should I have my AADSAS application completed by this day or in the works?

Also, I just returned from meeting with several Dr.'s and Professors of mine about recommendation letters. I gave them the AADSAS cover letter and I assume they will send their Letters of Recommendation in a week or two. Should I have them wait and send their letters of recommendation around Mid-may or should I have them go-ahead and send in the LOR now??

You don’t have to submit on the 15th to be considered an early applicant. I would definitely have your app submitted by the end of May. On the safe side have the profs wait on sending the letters until mid-May because you don’t want to give AADSAS any reason to miss place your rec's due to the cycle not being open yet.
