Canadian Applicant Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hahhahaa that's so funny yet so true!!! I think applying for clinical would definitely qualify as a traumatic experience lol!!!
ps. Got accepted into Queen's clinical today!! which is really wierd because I didn't even get contacted for an interview?!!
Way to go! You're so lucky (and I'm sure talented). I'm surprised they contacted you on Saturday.

I just received notice via email from U New Brunswick that I'll be getting an offer. Official offer and funding details to follow.

Yeah!

Thanks to psychgirl77 for keeping the list of schools updated, it's been really helpful.

That's awesome, congrats! And you're welcome about the list. 🙂

Relatedly, anyone else ask for the phone interview option for SFU, and if so, did you get any reply yet? (It's been 11 days now since I got the invite letter and I have not yet received any response re: scheduling.)

I'm doing the in person interview for SFU on Friday but still haven't heard details regarding scheduling. Have you heard yet? Is anyone else going to the in person interview?

Hey schizein! I'm in the same boat as you... I also haven't received my itinerary yet and am getting kind of worried about it. Not knowing what's going to happen is driving me crazy!

I just recieved mine too, finally!

I'm really worried about what I'm going to wear! I keep reading that skirt suits are preferable.
Also, should I have some nice short sleeve blouses to wear under my suit jacket but will we take our jackets off? Is it better to have long sleeves?
It's such a long day at SFU!!

Has anyone received rejections from McGill, Queen's, or Waterloo yet?

Is there any point in sending out an email to schools that haven't made any contact yet?

Ryerson is still interviewing. I got an invite to come down next week.

I haven't received any rejections yet. As for sending out an email, you can try, but I'm not sure how responsive departments will be right now. They might be more inclined to tell you something if you call.

I will be applying to a clinical program this year (for 2010) and everyone's anticipation and eagerness to get into a clinical program motivated me even more.

I want to specialize in (adult) clinical neuropsychology...so does anyone know which Canadian universities I should look into?

In about a year, I'll be in the same stressful position as all of you...so sincerely, I wish everyone the best of luck!!! 🙂

Hi Zanny,

U Toronto is pretty big on the neuropsych scene, especially in terms of memory research. I don't think there's a clinical program, but there's a "clinical extension" to the experimental phd that one can take that will allow one to do assessments. It might not be mentioned in any of their materials, you might have to ask someone about it. Note that much of the work in the human neuropsych/memory lab (look up Morris Moscovitch) is done on clinical populations (esp. alzheimers).

Heya... I would be kinda wary about the extension programs. U of T and Oise (where you would do the clinical aspects) are both pretty limiting on what they allow the other's students do. In other words, you can be a U of T-er trying to take courses at Oise, and Oise will deny you, or you are an Oise-er who is limited in what they can take at U of T (and alot of times, your 'neuropsych' experience is only like 2 extra classes, so you don't really get much instruction). So, it can be done, but it is def not preferred. That being said, U of T IS wonderful if you just want straight Neuropsych Exp.

I got an invite for a phone interview with York adult clinical this morning. So all of you waiting to hear from them, there's still hope!

UVIC and SFU both have clinical neuropsych emphases/specializations. I'm not sure about their rankings in those areas though.

I just checked my online status on Waterloo's website and it says decision: deny. So you might want to check if you haven't heard from them. It's my first rejection.

Is this through the Quest system? Which tab or heading did you see this under? I"m in panic mode...

Yup, it's through the Quest login. Go to admissions, and then graduate studies applicants, my applications, and then it will say decision: either deny or accept or whatever. Mine used to say decision: application until it was changed.

Thanks psychgirl77. I'll take a look. Good luck on your other applications.

I had dinner with a friend last night and heard from her that a girl in my thesis class got accepted (unofficially) into

Western
Concordia
McGill

Not sure how she found out--but likely through email/phone.

I know that Western has already had the interviews and most people have decided on students and let them know.

At Concordia, the professors are currently narrowing it down and have to let the department know who their top choice is by March 2nd.

I think at McGill the professors have already unofficially decided but no decisions have gone out.

Has any one heard anything from Dal?
On the web for my application it says decision made written notification to follow, I am assuming this means I did not get in.

According to what I was told, all accepted applicants are going to an open house this friday (Feb 27) at Queen's ... not hearing from them doesn't mean rejection though! apparently there's a pretty big wait list.

Has anyone received rejections from McGill, Queen's, or Waterloo yet?

Is there any point in sending out an email to schools that haven't made any contact yet?

Anyone know why the University of Victoria doesn't tend to appear AT ALL on clinical psychology rankings lists?

I received an unofficial acceptance into York's Clinical-Developmental program yesterday after the interviews, but I still have to wait for the paper work to come through.

Has anyone heard from the McGill Counselling PhD program? I know they started reviewing applications a few weeks ago...

Official rejection today from the University of Western Ontario, by postal mail. I didn't get an interview, so I'm not surprised. Oh, UWO... Why don't you love me anymore? 😛

Email from POI for phone interview for University of Regina.

Does anyone have a heads up on when Waterloo will inform us of acceptance/waitlist? The wait is excruciating.😱

I asked one of the profs when I interviewed-- seems like they're meeting this week sometime, and we'll likely find out something next week. The prof also said I could email if I had questions, so I'll send one next Wednesday if we still haven't heard. 🙂

After weeks of no news from any of the schools (other than discouraging and surprising emails regarding missing documents from the grad secretaries), I finally got a phone call from both U of C and York this week. And shortly after, an admission was offered by U of C today. So for all of you waiting for responses, have faith! At first, I thought no news = bad news, but I think many of the schools are still a bit slow in their decision processes. Good luck to everyone still waiting. :luck:

Accepted to adult clinical program at University of Windsor today!!! 🙂

Congrats psyhcgirl77!

I got Rejected from Waterloo. 🙁

I have a feeling this coming week is going to be a big one for acceptances and rejections. Good luck everyone!

I think you're right about this being a big week for decisions. I'm expecting to hear from my #1 choice this week, with either good or bad news.

Accepted to OISE's (University of Toronto) School and Clinical Child Psychology by email.

Good luck & congratulations to all!

Congrats guys!

how does it feel to accept an offer, if any of you have?

Waitlisted at SFU

Definitely not impressed with the program- each person I interviewed with had a totally different description of the program, not much funding and the program is much longer than the other places I interviewed at. Looks like I'm heading south for grad school

Congrats to everyone getting offers!

Offer of admission from SFU clinical neuropsych stream. Call from POI March 3.
Good luck everyone!
