Hi

I am a canadian student with roughly a 3.2 GPA and I have not written the MCAT, I plan to do this in September.

I was wondering if many schools accept canadians? If my GPA was anywhere close to competitive, and what schools do not require 2 semesters of organic chemistry.

Also, If anyone has any idea how credits transfer that would be nice. I know it is required 8 credits of biology so, 3 for lecture - 1 for lab. But, for courses that I have done, the lecture and lab are combined and given 3 credits for every course. Will this matter? or do i need to do more courses in these sciences to get the credits.

Can't give an accurate picture without knowing your science GPA,mcat, EC's. Your application will be competitive if your mcat/sgpa are high but your cgpa right now is above the minimum for most DO schools.

Theres lots of threads about schools that are canadian friendly, all you have to do is click search and look. But, here you go: http://www.studentdo.ca/drupal_beta/premed/schools

8 credits = 2 semesters of biology. So a full year class with lab or 2 half years with lab will suffice.

For science GPA, may sound stupid, but, is it all science courses or just prereqs?
I'm assuming its around a 3.0

As for EC's
- Played hockey competitively for 14 years
- Played soccer competitively for 8 years ( traveled with a team to england to compete )
- Swam on a swim team for 3 years, also competitive
- Did judo for 5 years, and won 2 silver medals at provincials
Competitive ball hockey for 2 years

Volunteered at a KidClub for 3 months. - helping children with social problems and being a role model
- Coats for kids ( 2 semesters ) - helping adults and children get clothing that fit for the cold months of winter that couldnt afford to buy their own.
- Apart of an outreach program MUNHOPE, Health, outreach, promotion, education - devote time and resources to educate university and high school students about promotion health, for example HIV, cancer, etc.
- First aid responder for about a year - 100 hours ish.
- Traveled to Kenya, Africa and shadowed physicians, how they dealt with what they had and used it effectively. Spent a week in each of OBS/GYN, Internal medicine, Paeds, and surgery. - at least 200 hours.
- also in Kenya volunteered for the red cross, helping flood victims evacuate and give them medical supplies.
- We also worked with the community health there to talk about HIV to a school and talk to communities in rural africa.

- received a global impact certificate all about global issues and leadership. about 12 weeks to complete.
- attended a medquest program in high school, shadowed doctors and learned about the health profession.
- I also coached soccer for 2 years - 2 different teams.

Plus a few other little things.

Those are great EC's. Your science GPA is primarily made of all science classes youve ever taken. In my opinion, you need to score around or above a 32 on MCAT with a 3.2cgpa and 3.0 sgpa in order to have any shot at securing a acceptance anywhere. Right now you are sitting near the minimum requirements for most DO schools, so aren't that competitive as a canadian.

Retaking classes with lower marks will really help both GPAs.

1. Yes, there are many schools that interview and therefore will accept Canadians.
2. You're GPA is not competitive, and because you are OOS you will likely need a ~31+ MCAT to be considered.
3. I'm pretty sure all schools require 2 semesters or orgo. However, they need to be completed before matriculation, not before you apply.
4. As long as the course had a lab component, that will suffice, regardless of whether it is labelled 3.0 or 4.0.
