Hey SDN,

I am Canadian and am looking to apply to US dental schools. I have just completed by third year in Biomed I have a couple general questions in addition to asking what my chances are.

GPA: 3.3; science GPA ~3.0 (one C i got really bought me down)
Canadian DAT:
AA 21 / TS 20 / PAT 18 / RC 22 (Bio 22 / Chem 19);
So far, I have volunteered at a hostpital and a rehabilitation center, both over the summer of my first year. I pretty much just worked and did Physics I during my second summer.
This summer, I plan to shadow a dentist, maybe volunteer if I can get a position, take Physics II and to prepare for my second DAT.
What are my chances and which universities can I consider as "hopeful"?

I feel like I can do better on the DAT if I put more effort into studying for it this time around. The second DAT is where things get tricky. The Canadian DAT is only held twice a year - Feb & Oct. So my concern is whether the scores of my second DAT this october will count if I apply to start dent in 2016. It took about 1.5 months for my DAT scores to be released, so I am wondering whether they will reach in time and whether they will count in the first place.

Also, I will be doing an honors project during my 4th year starting in september so will my grade for the honors project count towards my GPA?
What confuses me the most is, if I send out my applications to schools later this summer and interview offers start to roll out in december, even before I can finish my first semester, does that mean that they only consider my grades from the first three years? because this 4th year is my opportunity to increase my GPA, which I am confident I will be able to do. So I am worried that possibly my best year will not count when they are considering my application.

Sorry about the long read. Any responses will be appreciated.

What province are you in? Maybe I'll see you in Phys II
And also, it's in November, not October

And to answer your question, no your marks (1st semester nor DAT) won't count towards the December acceptance offers, but you can keep updating your profile and improve your chances for the later acceptances.

Im in Ontario. I will be taking Physics at either UofT or UOttawa this summer, depending on several factors.
And my mistake, I know it is in November, it was late at night and I was tired.

But what would you say my chances are? Thanks for the response btw 🙂

Why not take the US DAT? I heard it's easier than Canadian DAT and some US schools don't take the Canadian one. Your GPA is a big concern because other competitive Canadian applicants tend to have much higher GPA.
