what are chances of canadians being admitted to pharmd program in the US....are they considered at international or not and how many spots are dedicated for them in the colleges in US....plz dont reply my saying each college is different give examples plz....thanks

Canadians are international students by definition. Most pharmacy schools do not accept or severely limit the number of international. Also, since you are international, you won't qualify for any federal financial aid. My class has 1-2 internationals.

Why would you wanna come study here? You guys have great schools up there.

US has more schools, thats why i was wondering and also the fact that some schools look at adjusted gpa but in canada they look at ur cumulative gpa

Is it true that it is harder to get accepted in Canada?

i am in the same situation as you...try www.pharmcas.org and theres detailed information about what school'll consider international students and what doesn't

as canadians, we'll be considered as international. However, we're a little bit different because we won't have to get our transcript analyzed by a world translation service or whatever that's called, since they trust the Canadian educations as long as you're not educated in French.

and yes it WAY harder to get accepted here! First of all, theres NO private schools so each province only has 1 university that's got a pharm program... for example, last year my home university's pharm admission GPA average was an A- (3.7?)!! Pcat of 89% composite!! There's no way I can compete with that 🙁

michelle

i went to the pharmcas site but i couldnt find info for canadian applicants. can you send me the direct link.

thanks

You Canadians can't have it both ways! You guys get mad when someone jokes about Canada being the 51st state, yet you don't want to be treated as international students.

i know i totally feel that contradiction more and more... for example I was shocked the other day when I realize I can't pay for the school supplemental fees using my personal cheque! I couldn't just write a "$50USD" or something instead... instead I have to spend 5bucks more on money order! Sometimes I really forget it is 'international'... I'll probably go to the wrong terminal at the airport one day 😛

thanks alot.... do they consider a specific number of international students and which accepts the most number of canadian international?

Specific numbers are in the PharmCAS info pages, just read every single schools. And yes, international spots are limited to 2-3 per school usually. You might wanna going to the UK

hm really? i didn't bother applying to any state schools since i noe they prefer in-state students... but i've always thought most private schools don't have a preference of your place of residency?

Supposedly they don't for US citizens/residents but they do for international students.

The University of Michigan takes a few canadians every year, but that's because not many apply..

Only one canadian school offers a PharmD. The other degree is not the same as a US degree as the focus on curriculum is different.
