I was wondering how, and at what financial institution, other fellow Canadian citizens got loans to attend a D.O. school in the States. I have been accepted to a D.O. school but am having GREAT difficulty finding a financial institution willing to give me a loan.

Is it possible? People do get loans to go to the US to study osteopathic medicine, right?

I am just about at my wits end trying to find the necessary funding. If I can't get a bank to approve me for the funds, then I might not be able to accept my acceptance offer (which would be a terrible shame).

So if anybody has any advice/information, please, please let me know. Thanks!

I assume that you have tried RBC and such for a professional line of credit 150k.

Besides that, your province can help a little (unless it is Quebec, then you're out of luck).

If you can find a US cosigner, you can get a US loan.

I experienced great problems with MD Financial. They approved me for $150k until they realized I was going to a DO school, and I was forced to find another institution a week before I left for school. TALK ABOUT STRESSFUL!

Try RBC (which I have), but with the tightening economy, it might be a little tough. I had a REALLY good co-signor though (they just checked that my school was accredited and on some list of world medical schools or something like that).

Also try ScotiaBank. I also researched CIBC too, I think they give a LOC to Canadian students, and they may be a bit more desperate, since most med students go for RBC.

Good luck to you!
