Does anyone here have any first-hand experience with our armed forces' medical officer program?

Thanks for chiming in with your tips.

I have heard that when you apply as a medical school applicant to a Canadian university, that you must also notify the MOTP coordinator at DND. Is this true? Does this help at all with admissions?

Hey, that's my blog! How did you find out about it? Sorry it's pretty useless for any admissions tips.

If you are a civilian applying for MOTP: that is not true, and as far as I know no admissions committee will care. If anything, if you tell them you're want to go MOTP they may grill you on why you are so sure on committing yourself to Family Medicine and the military before even stepping through the med school's doors. Not that that is a bad thing, just that you should have a good answer for it.

If you are already in the military applying for MMTP: you can follow the instructions for Currently Serving CF Members (MMTP).

If you are already in the military and want to apply to med school outside of the military system, or through MOTP... don't know about that one. I think your chain of command will have to give the OK for that, eg releasing you from your current obligations/posting so you can apply. You should ask them.

Good luck everyone!

somebody gave your url to me when i was asking about MOTP myself.

Interesting... do you (and whoever gave it to you) actually know me personally, or just stumble on it? Because my humour on it sometimes gets lost in translation, I'm told. Hope it didn't scare you off medicine or MOTP or anything.

oh no. I'm still here on SDN and Pre-Med101 afterall.😉

I'm not sure on whether she knows you personally or not. I'll PM you her pseudo on P101 if you want.

No worries. Just that if we did know each other in real life I'd be wondering how much you knew about me I wasn't aware of... make for an interesting conversation anyway. But if when you're a doctor and one of your colleagues (ie me) keeps yapping on about "Well in Singapore they do it this way and get better outcomes" you'll know why. =)

and a pretty good guess on who you are. "hey gov"😉
