Hello,

Does anyone know about Canadian dental school admissions? Do they accept the US DAT scores? I went to McGill website, and it says people with 3.5 or higher science/math GPA are eligible for applying. Do they have different GPA scale than the US or is Canada way more competitive? Also, does anyone know app. how much the tuition is cuz it seems very cheap compared to the US schools. Thanks again!

GPA is a 4 point scale, it shaves off around 0.1 pts off the AADSAS GPA. The main difference however is that Canadian Schools are much more competitive. To be admitted into most you need a 3.7 to a 3.8. You also need to take the CDN DAT because there is a carving section. On the plus side, tuition is way cheaper than private U.S schools, it is around 25-30K a year but you will pay more if you're not a Canadian Citizen. Of course because the government funds the schools, they prefer Canadians over International applicants.

Where are you from? It depends for Canadian schools. There are no 'private' Canadian schools, which means that they give priority to ppl from their respective provinces.. I can tell you that you would need at least a 3.5 to go to McGill (if you are from Quebec), and most other dschools in Canada. Canada is obsessed with grades and the higher the better. There are 10 schools coast to coast (2 of which are french). It is competitive, so get ur grades up!

reject 30's on canadian DAT.. 🙁 🙁 I emailed U of Toronto admissions and they said I could take USDAT and there wouldn't be any disadvantages.. The problem is I don't think all the canadian schools accept US DAT scores, and they require different prerequisite courses. For example, UT said they don't require gen chem, orgo and physics! Instead i have to take a year of biochem, human phys and other stuff. I have CAnadian residency so it would be so much cheaper to go there but then if it that competitive... ahhhhhhh i don't know 🙁 Anyone has applied/accpeted would like to share their stats? Thanks

McGill will look at you if you have a 3.5 and a good interview. Western does not like people who do not take full course loads; if you have a year where you did not take a full course load, even if all your grades are A+, they do not count it in your GPA (this is from word of mouth I have not seen it in writing). UofT does not care about the DAT very much. They do not look at soap carving at all. Here is UofT stats from our website:

Thanks for the info!
these stats look impossible 🙁
so if majority of people are from Ontario, do people who when to US schools, like me, have a lower chance?
And, do u mean "full courseload" by at least 16 credit hour? like, people usually take 4 academic courses, 4credit each, and a couple of a credit-hour courses in my school. So if I take 13 credit hour in one semester, Western won't even consider me? how about graduating a semester early?

They aren't that impossible, it depends on your GPA. We have 2 students from the US in our class. I thought a full courseload was 5 courses, but the US system may be different than ours....I don't know much about US schools. If in doubt just call Western and ask, they are pretty nice if you call.
