Anyone know...esp if you are a Canadian...how much harder it is for us to match into an OMFS program?

I've heard anywhere from 0 chance because we aint American, to some saying most programs will not consider it an issue (or liability).
Im pretty sure for Orthodonitcs its not at all an issue.

You should do some research on the PASS and AAOMS websites. Each program has their own requirements about residency requirements and citizenships. Most programs require American citizens, but some also will allow permanent residents apply. Some will not take any unless American citizens.

I ran into a lot of Canadians during interviews at US programs. I think that even programs require a US or Canadian dental degree and will still take non-US citizens who are Canadian, I think that Canadian Visa things are less "work"

Hey thanks for the info pal...that is about what I was looking for, real world confirmation. And they said NAFTA was a mistake...

I've met some Canadians who are presently residents at a few programs across the country. It can be done.

This reminds me of the southpark song... blame canada...

Most 4yr and a few 6yr programs take canadians. Some 6 yr programs will tell you up front they won't consider you. Some will say it's no problem, and may interview you, but not rank you.
The best way is to see if there are canadian residents in the program.

These programs are known to be pro-canadian with current canadian residents: U of Michigan (6 yr) (6 canadians in the program), Montefiore (4yr), U of Connecticut (6yr) (but more difficult post 9/11), Cornell (4 and 6 yr), U of Rochester (4 yr) and probably more....
You should do some externships in programs that you have a shot in.

hope this helps
