I've searched for the answer, but I'm still not clear on it. If you're canadian and go to a caribbean school, you have to do your residency in the US. But when you're finished, how likely is it to return to Canada and practice medicine? I'm not looking for a "you can do anything you set your mind to, it has been done" type answer lol. It seems like all the other threads like this are answered like that. Are there any statistics or anything on this? If you had to guess, what percentage of canadian caribbean grads end up practicing in canada?

What makes you think there are stats about something as rare as Canadian Carib students returning to Canada?...lol

In order to return to Canada, you have to take the Canadian boards at the same time as you take the USMLE exams. Then you can apply to Canadian residencies along with American ones.

At least a dozen Canadians from Carib schools are doing residency in Canada this year. You other choice is to finish US residency and apply for a Canadian fellowship.

I don't have any statistics on this matter but I know a few people from my SGU class doing their residency back in Canada.

Off the top of my head, one guy is doing Anesthesia at Univ. Toronto and another is doing PM&R. So like McGill has pointed out, it can be done.

Further to the last point.

How does the MCCQ compare to the USMLE?
I am assuming they are similar content. So if one were to study for one of these exams the other should be similiar?

Thanks.

No first-hand experience, but from what people who have taken both say, it is similar in content and studying for one will suffice for the other (generally).

Yes, it is possible, but why are you asking these questions here?? Have you done much research on this subject? Besides, for your own safety, don't ask open ended questions like that. Instead ask specific questions where there is little room to criticize because some people on this forum will simply laugh in your face and make you feel like an idiot. I suggest, to not go on the pre-med sites for this, but the caribbean residency or med student's forums. Most pre-meds, including myself, only can tell you some of the story. While some will claim they know everything on this forum, they are basically full of s--t. Good luck my friend!! you'll do well!!
