Canceling an interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would definitely cancel. They might be able to invite someone who might view that as their best offer.
Further, they dont have to spend time trying to evaluate you on the interview if that time will be wasted by you already knowing you're going somewhere else.

I agree that if you're certain or almost certain you're going to accept the current offer (or, conversely, are nearly certain that you wouldn't take an offer from the program with the upcoming interview even if one were offered), then I would go ahead and cancel. Odds are they're going to appreciate the heads up.

How about an interview that is just 2 days away?

same IMO. If I was wondering why I didnt get invited but that school was my #1, you cancelled today and they called and invited me, I'd be on a plane so fast...

Point is, you never know what's going to happen. Give them the oppourtunity to interview the people that have the best chance of coming there so they can make a better informed decision.

Great - thanks. That was my thinking but I didn't want the program to think I was rude and inconsiderate by not giving more notice. It's just that my top choice is sending offers on a Wednesday and I have the other interview on Friday.
