Hello all,
What do you think is the most appropriate way to cancel an interview--is e-mail acceptable or would a phone call to the program coordinator be preferred?? How far in advance do you need to cancel and do you need to give a reason? Thanks and good luck everyone!

I think you should call the program coordinator. We were told this by the dean at our school - because it's more polite to do it this way, so it doesn't reflect badly on your school, therefore not biasing the program against other students from your school. Soon rather than later is the best for cancelling - even the noncompetitive places may have wait lists, so someone else can get to use that interview slot. And don't forget to go on ERAS and withdraw your app from the school.
Congrats on having enough to start canceling! Good luck :luck:

Thanks so much tiredmom...that sounds great! Good luck.

do you really think we need to call? i actually think that it might be kind of annoying for program coordinators and an e-mail would be easier?

I think a call is probably nicer and more well-mannered, but I'm emailing. I just can't bear the thought of the conversation, you know???

I e-mailed, especially since some programs specifically instruct you to contact them via e-mail when confirming an interview. As long as it gets the point across, I think e-mail is fine. I'm sure the residency program coordinators get tons of phone calls all day, so e-mail seems easier to me.
