I just had a question if the work, mentioned below, is better described as a 'Research experience' or a 'Volunteer experience'.

I was involved in patient data collection, and making charts/performing statistics/data input and analysis, and organizing them as a report for the Annual Cancer Report, for National Cancer Registry in the country. The analysis is for the time-frame of 2011, and was due to be published in 2013. The report basically tells about the incidence/prevalence of the various cancers, the susceptible population, the age of diagnosis, survival etc. Unfortunately, due to some corporate issues(between the sponsors/board members), its still not published, and is pending in the Ministry's research division. However, the data is there, and its complete but its not published as such and can't be located online. Maybe in the near future.

I performed the work as a volunteer for around 6-7 months, and the doctor who supervised me is willing to write letter and vouch for me.

What does this qualify as? Will it look better in research, since I did review data, made charts/forms, had a bit of literature review, data input, statistics, analysis. Or volunteer since the majority of work was data entry/analysis and I performed it from home i.e interpretation and processing of raw data (although the initial months, I was actively involved in clinics/record department)?

Thank you all for the generous support. You all make this match process easier to gulp!

Doesn't matter but I'd call it volunteer. Unless you were using the data to ask specific, novel questions which you came up with. Otherwise it was data entry.

Yeah, I wouldn't over think this -- it's gonna be hard to spin it as something other than clerical unless/until you did some presentation/poster/paper with that data. Even then it's not going to be a deciding factor on you app.
