Dear Vets,
I am a dog parent of an otherwise healthy Shetland Sheepdog who has recently succumbed to cirrhosis of the liver and who has been given a week to live. A partial or full transplant is her only hope.
I have contacted a number of vets, including a Prof. of Vet Med from UC Davis. Their consensus is that my only hope is to find either:
1. a human liver transplant center/school who uses dogs for practice (or drug research) or
2. A Vet school that does liver transplants for research
I am steadily contacting every one I can find, but have had no luck thus far.
Does anyone have any knowledge or recommendations?
I am based in Maryland but would travel anywhere on Earth to save my dog.
Many thanks,
Jason
PS Her appetite has completely vanished for several days. I got an anti-nausea medicine for her, but she still isn’t eating. Any suggestions on that front would also be greatly appreciated.
