Okay, so I'm a WA resident who had high hopes of at least being able to apply to the UW, but now am wondering if I should throw out that thought and, in the process of making things simpler for myself, try and work at the prereqs for other schools, instead.

I go to a very tiny uni that doesn't technically offer a second quarter of the requisite micro or biochem, instead having course offerings that are very similar and I have heard would work anyway for the UW. However, these such courses are offered only once every few years, and based on past patterns, would by no means be available whenever I would need to take them.

Right now I'm a pre-med major, which requires the usual year of bio, chem, organic, and physics, but also another variety of classes offered only occasionally, including molecular biology and those second biochem micro substitutes. However, if I switch to a biology major, I would have more freedom to chose which courses I could take and could take A&P, which seems to be a requirement for more schools than two quarters of micro and biochem.

Sorry about the length -- here's my overall question: should I try my darnedest to get in the prereqs for my state school (even taking them in the summer at other unis) though it would cut off my chance to apply to several other places, or would it be better to cut my losses, ignore the UW, and work at having courses that fit with more schools?

Thanks in advance, this one's been eating away at me for awhile.

Personally, I would go the route that betters my chances of getting accepted in to dental school. If you have decent stats and feel you can get into OOS or private dental schools if can meet their requirements, I would go that route if it means you would be able to attend those schools a year or two earlier. As nice as it would be to attend U-Dub in your case, you would lose more potential income by applying a year or two later because of trying to meet UW requirements when you could have applied earlier and met multiple schools requirements.

Go the route where you feel your chances are greatest of getting accepted.
